Red raspberries
I
have previously written about black berries.
And they are as hard to grow as grass.
Once they get going you will have them forever. Well their better tasting and more expensive cousin
is not quite so easy. Red raspberries
are a bit more finicky and animals like rabbits (very bad rabbits), like to eat
the plants off when they are young. We transplanted
many red raspberries from my mom’s house years ago with no luck. Some were eaten and some died; we just could
not keep them alive. As time passed we
just kind of gave up on having red raspberries.
In the last few years we put a fence around our land which cuts down on
the number of rabbit;, the bad rabbits.
We also started using more fertilizer and some of the berries started to
return. They do not multiply as fast as
the black cousins, but we not have half a dozen healthy plants
